McQueen original on left. Kenley 'creation' on right. Did she 'borrow' concept?

Talented Diva?

Okay. Here goes.  I admit it. It’s not shallow,  I promise.  At least, I don’t think it is.  I love Project Runway.  I just love, love, love it!  I know the economy is a mess now, and I have the election to think about, and surely there are far more pressing issues to concern myself with at the moment, but still, I adore the ‘reality’ drama of the would be designers on Bravo Television’s Project Runway!  Who’s with me?  Anyone?

Surely, I can’t the only one.  I don’t care how old you are, what you do for a living, whether you’re single or married,  I know for a fact that some of you must love it too, right?  If you watch it, you know the finale is coming this week.  Finally, we get to know who the winner is! I’m fine with anyone winning, anyone except for Kenley.  Sorry Kenley fans.  I’m not saying she doesn’t have talent, or passion, or attitude.  I give you that.  She has all of it, in spades.  But is she honest?  Is she kind?  Doesn’t that mean something?  Can you write off her bitchy—ness just because she’s creative?  I say no.

The design world, by nature, is collaborative.  I know this from experience.  For better or worse, I know first hand how tough it is to get a concept from the mind, to paper, to sample, to production, to on a hanger, in a store.  It is more minutia than I care to go into detail here, more than you care to even read.  I can assure you that talent is only part of the deal.  Part of the issue is this - will folks want to work with Kenley, the diva, if she’s having an off day, and makes her staff feel like dirt?  Will they support her dream, her vision, her passion, if she dismisses them, just because she feels cranky, and needs an outlet?  I doubt it.

Talent will only take her so far.  Should she win?  Does she have what it takes to win at Bryant Park, the pinnacle of New York Fashion Week?  Maybe.  Bravo fans will find out soon enough.  Kenley, I don’t hate you, it’s just that I don’t think I like you very much.  And it’s not because you’re mega talented, or not.  There’s no jealousy here.  It’s not that.  I don’t want you to win because you don’t seem very nice is all, and that has to count for something in this world, especially now.  In these times, world over, nice is good.  Nice should always count for something.

A cardinal sin in the design world is directly knocking off a comrade.  Though designers do it all the time,  they attempt at least, to do it with subtlety.  Can we address your finale so far?  The wedding dress?  The one with the pale yellow feathers and tulle?  Do you really expect us to believe that it’s possible that you didn’t see the Alexander McQueen dress?  Come on!  Even Tim Gunn called you out on it!  Step up girl.  Borrow -  that’s fine, but don’t steal.  Please!

Tune in this week Bravo fans.  May the best designer win.  Big love for Bravo though.  They do bitchy - creative so well!  Even in these times, a little drama can’t hurt, can it?

So I love project Runway, too. ADDICTED. Though this is the worst season on record, I think. I just do not care. I find myself rooting for Mousey Girl and that was the one I wanted to go from the get-.

I didn’t see McQueen’s dress but Michael K_ referenced it. It’s WAY too similar, I think. Seriously???? She didn’t just ‘think that’ did she?
