Brad's photos on W magazine cover

Brangelina Overload?

Katy Gorman

Hello People!  I said I’d nevah evah do it, but I’m doin’ it,  and I’m doin’ it here.  Can we talk about the Angelina photos?  The ones Brad took of Angie for W magazine?  On newsstands now.  Or at least I think it’s on newsstands now.  It’s been all over the news hasn’t it,  and the web, and the radio?  Hasn’t everyone seen them by now?

Oh snap.  Let me stop my low grade bitterness here.  No need to get bitchy over yet again the rollin’ out of the Brangelina crew, for public consumption, only this time with a spin.  This time it’s photos of the family, artfully taken in black and white film,  as seen through the eyes of Papa Pitt.  Hmmm….. I go back and forth, and back and forth again re how I feel about this ever expanding,  ever evolving, globe trottin’ eclectic collection of folk.  On the one hand, I can see the appeal.  On the other hand, I can’t help but smell a rat, as though something isn’t really as it seems.  I can’t put my finger on it.

What do I know?  It’s not like I know them. Artful Images.  Intimately taken. Okay.  I get the sensitivity here.  I know Brad loves Angie, Angie loves Brad, and the kids, Brad loves the kids, they all love each other.

But wait.  Why do we have to see it everywhere we go?  Test yourself at the grocery store.  Can you make it through the checkout without seeing one of them on at least one cover of some glossy weekly celebrity gossip magazine?  For a couple that claims to crave privacy, we sure do seem to see a lot of them, don’t we?  And now these images, added to the heap, created by Pitt, who seems to be the front man re keeping the photographers, I mean paparazzi away.

Sometimes it’s just too much.  I was in Rite Aid the other afternoon, the store was practically empty.  I was the only one in line, in a hurry to pay so I could make it back to my neighborhood before the school bus returned my youngest daughter home.  I had to wait for the checker, seemingly well past retirement age, to finish reading yet another article on Jolie and company.  Fine.  But then she proceeded to tell me, as though she hadn’t a care in the world about health issues, or her social security concerns, about how she couldn’t stand Angelina, and how Brad had been so much better off with Jen, and how she didn’t like the way Angie treated Brad’s poor parents, and so on……

Who was this soul sister I wondered?  I was curious, and if I’d had more time, I would have loved to swap stories with her for a while.  Working the cash register, at the counter with all those weeklys, surely she could have filled me in on so much more.  We never got to the W photos.  Oh sigh, there’s always next week.  More stories, more photos.  Surely more than we need.
