Happy New Year Britney! Katy GormanThe best thing about the new year is, well, that it’s a new year. Right? Think of all the things that can and do happen in the span of a day, a week, a month, and over the course of an entire year. A full three hundred and sixty five days. Just spelling it out like that makes it seem long. And yet, in retrospect, the years seem to go so fast. Each year, faster than the one before. Time is trippy like that, and the year end reviews that always flood the media post Christmas seem to make a kind of trippy collage, in fast forward, reverse, freeze frame, and somehow, between the old year, and the new - pause. Just take Britney for example. How far she’s come in a year! How long ago was it when she was ‘not a girl, not quite a woman?’ Then she met K fed, and suddenly she was a mommy and a wife, in the span of what, one year? Two? And then the whole crash and burn, how long did that take? Less than a year, right? It couldn’t have been more than a few months tops when she was riding around with that paparazzi guy Adnan, before the hospital visits, before her parents stepped in, taking control, getting her circus of a life back in order. All this while successfully dodging the media of course. But I can’t think of when her baby sister Jamie Lynn became pregnant, and gave birth. Was it this year, or last? Did she graduate high school yet? Jamie Lynn, I mean. The months and years are beginning to blur. Time is flying. But that’s my point. Lots can happen in a year. Good and evil. Triumph and despair. Cloak and dagger, smoke and flames. And if you’re in the middle of the storm, with time, weeks, months, or years on your side, eventually, with the grace of time, you can find yourself of the other side, in the sunny side. Enter Britney as evidence. She seems to have rebounded. Ended up on the other side. Who knows how much time went by. Who cares? I know I don’t, I’m only happy for her boys that she seems to have a little more sun shinning over that blond hair of hers, however long it is now, after the head shaving incident. But that was before. This is the after. And thanks to time, and time being on her side, and the value and beauty of time being a healer, none of it matters. She’s on the better side now. Happy New Year. Buckle up for the dramas that no doubt lie ahead. But that’s the nature of the beast. None of us have more than 24 hours in a day. That sounds like a lot, considering how many days we get in a year. It’s exciting turning a corner, getting a blank slate. Like school supplies in the new year, we get to start fresh.
