Be part of the buzz this year with one of the many St. Patrick’s Day events. With a celebration this long, you won’t be able to leave the house without something green for a week.

Tuesday, March 11
It’s Irish trivia night at Blackfinn. Get your friends together on trivia team and win prizes. Admission is free but games begin at 9 p.m.

Thursday, March 13
Lucky ladies night at Blackfinn. Wear green and receive food and drink deals. One lucky lady will walk away with a pot full of prizes. There will also be free hors’d’oeuvres. Party from 9 to 11 p.m. Admission is free.

Friday, March 14
Sine Irish Pub doesn’t have a St. Patrick’s Day countdown above their bar for nothing. Enjoy the big party Friday and Saturday with live bands, food and friends. On Friday night, dance to the U2 cover band, Even Better Than The Real Thing. No cover. On Saturday,

Saturday, March 15
Come to 18th and Main streets to celebrate the fifth anniversary of Shamrock the Block. This free outdoor event, from noon to 6 p.m., will have plenty of food and drink to keep you hoppin’ to one of the live bands. Bands include The Georgia Satellites and Louis XIV. Bring your children and give them a chance to have their face painted of play games. This year, celebrate the earth as you celebrate St. Patrick’s Day. The festival goes green with a new recycling initiative, bio-diesel fueled generators and free information on how to make your home greener.

Join the Scottish Country Dancers of Richmond for a reel or two during their St. Patrick’s Day dance. These delightful dancers will be kicking things off at 2 p.m. at the Church of the Epiphany located on 8000 Hermitage Road. Enjoy a potato and dessert bar after the dance. All dancers must be fragrance free. There will be a $15 fee to participate and a $3 fee to watch.

Come to Sine Irish Pub for a street party. Listen to music by Uisce Beatha, US, Naughty Little Monkey and Broken Monday. Come down to 1327 E. Cary St. where you can celebrate inside the pub or out front in the street, which will be closed off for the festivities. Admission is free before 1 p.m. and $3 anytime after.

Added March 4: The Hanover Courthouse Volunteer Fire Company is having a St. Patrick’s Day Luncheon from noon to 3 p.m. This is a fundraising event. For $6 (children 10 and under are $3), you’ll get delicious Irish beef stew, bread, dessert, coffee and tea. This event will be held at Station 5 at 13326 Hanover Courthouse Road in Hanover. Sunday, March 16
O’Toole’s offers a St. Patrick’s Day Irish Wake with bagpipes, bands and drink specials. The celebration begins at 7 p.m.

Monday, March 17
The Greater Richmond Pipes and Drums will be performing around town at different pubs and festivals. Catch them at O’Toole’s from 2 to 3 p.m., Poe’s Pub at 5 and 7 p.m., Capital Ale House Downtown at 6, 8 and 10 p.m. and at Blackfinn at 9 p.m. Admission is free.

The Irish band Suas comes all the way from Dublin to Rare Olde Times Pub to play on St. Patrick’s Day. Other bands include Calahan Guy on the harp, The Havers, Thistle & Shamrock Dancers, Richmond Pipers & Drums, Andy & Cindy & Thensome and Uisce Beatha. The pub, located at 10602 Patterson Ave., will open at 11 a.m. A $5 cover charge will benefit the Knights of Columbus.

Capital Ale House hosts its sixth annual St. Patrick’s Day Celebration at two different locations. Come see music, dancing and drums while sipping on one of the 20-plus Irish and Scottish brews. Traditional Irish fare such as corned beef and cabbage, Irish stew and potatoes will be for sale. Bands include Edsall Road, Tinkers Dam and St. Andrews Legion Pipe & Drums Band. Must be 21 to attend. Admission is free. The Innsbrook celebration will take place from 4 to 11 p.m. at the restaurant, located at Cox and West Broad Street. The downtown celebration will be held in the Downtown Music Hall on 619 East Main St.

Updated March 6: Enjoy Irish food and a pint or two at Sine Irish Pub while listening to Irish tunes by Jim Guy from Uisce Beatha. The fun begins at 11:30 a.m. and lasts until the pub closes. Free admission.

At O’Toole’s, St. Practice Day turns into St. Patrick’s Day. Enjoy drink specials, fish and chips, Irish stew and corned beef and cabbage. Join in on the fun and the food at 4800 Forest Hill Ave. Starts at 7 p.m.

Saturday, March 29 and Sunday, March 30
St. Patrick’s Church Irish Festival, located at Broad and 25th streets, offers food, drinks, dancing, music and crafts for people of all ages. This is the festival’s 23rd year. The event begins with a parade that ends at a bustling street festival of all things Irish. Enjoy food from Rare Old Times, Poe’s Pub and Irish dishes prepared by cooks at the Holy Rosary and St. Patrick’s churches. There is a $2 donation, and all proceeds benefit the community. Free parking is available with a shuttle service. 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday.
