Boost Your Metabolism! .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) Personal Training Supervisor, Endorphin FitnessHow many of you have struggled with this same problem? You feel like you are eating healthy and exercising your butt off, but the weight just won’t come off? Your metabolism is the combination of all physical and chemical processes taking place in the body. It is essentially the rate at which the body burns fuel. Your basal metabolic rate (BMR) is unique to each individual. This is the rate at which the body uses energy when at rest. No one utilizes fats, proteins, and carbohydrates in the same exact way. What you put into your body is really what you will get out of it! Our body is cleverly designed to withstand feast or famine, so the metabolism is conditioned to burn depending on available food sources. Within as short as two days, metabolism can be reduced by as much as 15-35% below normal response to reduced caloric intake. Sensing the onset of a crisis like starvation, the body slows down all metabolic processes as a protective mechanism. Inconsistent eating habits cause huge swings in blood sugar and consequently insulin levels. These problems are partly to blame for this epidemic of overweight-related diseases in America. Many people skip breakfast, and then have so many hours between meals that blood-sugar levels get extremely out of control. When we eat inconsistently the body has no idea what fuel to expect and when. Our BMR becomes sluggish as a result of this because it is trying to protect us. Since your BMR is not a fixed number, why not chose a healthy and active lifestyle to change it and make yourself a more efficient fat burning machine! One pound of muscle burns approximately 25 times more calories than a pound of fat! Exercising with weights also releases hormones that help destroy fat. The best part is that your metabolism will stay elevated/fat burning will occur for several hours after, not just during your weight training.
