One little tiny bit of "inspiration" for Kate's career change to stay-at-home (working) mom
Kate's site is http://www.RichmondMom.com, which is quickly becoming a well-known parenting site for Richmond parents and an online magazine of sorts. When she's not pursuing a million other interests, she's working on content for her site, working on promotions, and squeezing in as much time as possible for hugs with her three little ones under 7.

Stay at home working mom? One mom’s quest to do it all, sanely

Kate W. Hall

smile How does one become a stay-at-home working mom? I’m about to find out. It’s kind of a long story, but to spare the fair reader the gorey details, I began my business (web business called RichmondMom.com) back in 1/08, on a hunch that the business for my real-estate-related “day job” may not be in the best condition, and more importantly, because I had a dream to pursue. My husband and I were careening along on our “five year plan” to build his machinery business while I worked in the corporate world (by day), web world (by night, weekend, early a.m., you name it!)

Well, “someday five years down the road” got pushed up a bit sooner than we expected when I was laid off from LandAmerica Financial Group, Inc. in November ‘08 as part of a mass layoff (and later, a bankruptcy that resulted in the company being acquired by a competitor). No problem, I thought! I’ll just plug away at my site and keep interviewing. And interviewing. And phone screening. And sending resumes. And going on interviews. And not getting the position. And finally, it struck me: I already have a job. And I love it! I am one of the millions of small business owners in this country and doggone it, I may be struggling but I work for myself, and I’ve never been as passionate about anything in my life. So, I’m officially a working, stay-at-home mom of three darling kiddos. (pretty sure the working part goes without saying, even if I didn’t have a small business). Stay tuned.

I am so glad to learn that you are content with the blessings that you have: kids, husband, and fulfilling jobs.  I too am a mom and a business owner and understand how being passionate about something gets you up in the morning and through each day, even when the bills aren’t paid.  Thank you for the reminder and for your website.
