Work or Stay at Home? Elizabeth JamesThe following is an email to me, my sister T and my little brother. It is from my mom. She retired last week ending 40 years of non-stop work. I love you mom… “Hi I am officially signing off as a working mother. (That is why I sent this just to the three of you) I have had flash backs as a working mom. Here are just a few. Me crying on main street in P-ville b/c Lizzy was a baby and putting a strangle hold around my neck. (Seems like yesterday) Walking in to work and my boss telling my daughter “Well wear your brown socks”. Not caring what you wore to school because I was late for work. T hanging on my legs and me crying all the way to work in Burle. Not sewing brownie or cub scout patches on until the 11th hour and then maybe not. Helping with homework (I don’t know and so my child puts that on her paper) My son steps on a rake and I run to meet the sitter at the mean Dr’s office and watch as he is almost stitched. Measles, chicken pocks etc. Crying because I was afraid I would get fired but so desperately wanted to be with my kids. Always rushing around waiting for weekends or until my kids were old enough to be more self sufficient. Well, now the day is here and they are all grown up. Now , the only thing I can do is be there for them to help with the grandchildren. I am happy to retire. I just wish all of you were home waiting for me as little kids. Love Mom” Happy Work-Free Monday Mom…E
