Bow wow wow Katy GormanOnce upon a time there was a family who wanted a dog. Mom and dad weren’t so keen on the idea, but finally, the two young children wore them down. Soon enough, a furry new addition was part of the team. The end. Unless you’re talking the Obama’s, then the story is a bit longer. Dad tells the kids - ‘Hey, if I get elected president, we’ll get a dog when we move into the White House.’ The end. Still, it’s not really the end though. The story of Bo goes on and on. I didn’t even know such a breed even existed until last week. See Bo running on the lawn. See adorable daughters smiling. See Michelle keeping up with daughters, keeping up with Bo. See our president jogging down the halls of the White House, in suit and tie, keeping up with Bo. Aw shucks, it’s almost too much. Enough already, okay? I like dogs, and I like Obama so far, but I think the story, and the back story, and the behind the scenes stories of whether or not Bo truly is a rescue dog are more than I care to read. And here I am, adding another one to the heap. The phrase lucky dog is coming to mind. Does Bo think he’s lucky? Is he a lucky dog? The fact that even I know so much about Bo, and how he came to live in the White House is more than I’m proud to admit. Who cares if the Kennedy’s had something to do with it? In a way, don’t they always? Does that make him less viable, in terms of rescue? Was the rescue angle a big set up? Was he really rescued? Supposedly he was, having been returned, from his original owners for not being a ‘good fit.’ Hmmm…… A dog like Bo? Adorable Bo, who’s now running around out back while the girls play on the the swingset, being shooed away from the vegetable garden? I’m not sure I believe the rescue bit, but I do believe the lucky dog part. And they lived happily ever after. The end.
