SpyingOnSuburbia: Passing Gas

Passing Gas

Toots, passing gas, breaking wind, farting, poot, flagellate …so you know where I am going here.  I will tell you that in my home it was called shooting bunnies.  As in who shot the bunny?  Yes, I am not sure where this came from, all I know is that it originated with my dad and that for the first 13 or so years of my life, I did not know this was unique to our family nor pee your pants laugh worthy personal information.

Now, fart was a forbidden word in my family and to this day far worse f words will fly from my mouth but not fart.  I still cannot say it with out a blushing guilt.

I bring this up because now I have children of my own.  They are 9, 7 and 6 months.  My sister has a one year old.  I have proudly passed down our shoot the bunny heritage as a family tradition of sorts.  I cringe when my kids come home and let the word fart slip reminding them that we don’t say that in our house.

I see my son blush when I mention shooting bunnies, I guess like the rest of today’s topics, he just gets it faster then I did…that saying something like “who shot the bunny” is paramount to walking into school naked.

Today we had Easter dinner with all our family.  My niece (Baby Sunshine) has one of those bunny blanket things that she cannot be without.  She walks around and sucks her thumb and one of the ears.  She loves this bunny.  So, much that my sister has to wash it almost as much as Baby S because it can get a bit smelly.

Baby Sunshine loves to laugh when she passes gas.  We were telling my mom this story about her doing so during a recent visit to my house.  My sister said tooted and I said wait, why would you not carry on our family tradition?  Our silly phrase…

T looked at me and pointed to Baby Sunshine saying, if I asked who shot the bunny, she would be traumatized.  She pointed to the bunny blanket tucked in her arms.

Yes, that would be traumatic.  Baby Sunshine running around wondering who was trying to shoot her bunny!

Have a silly Monday! E
